Rock River Lumber and Grain was the site for our Thursday CEO business visit. Students learned that the company has four divisions: grain, agronomy, Frary Lumber, and logistics/fuel from General Manager Carey Bauer. Becky and Andy conducted a thorough visit of the Frary store which included every aspect of home design and building, from paint to tubs to siding, and so much more. In spite of the threat of rain, students also spent some time outdoors viewing the extra buildings, the weigh station (where Olivia probed the semi to retrieve a corn sample), and a trip to the rails where semis were unloading corn. The 110 car train x 2 per day = a lot of corn! That corn will head south to feed millions of chickens that eat about 5 pounds of corn in their 40 day life span. One last number: it is estimated that each American eats about 10 chickens annually….that’s a lot of chickens and corn!
