Our busy week concluded with a visit to Frary Lumber and Rock River Grain, hosted by Carey Bauer, General Manager and President and Frary Lumber Manager Andy Ames. Students toured the showroom/store and multiple buildings containing a wide range of inventory. They learned that the majority of the customers are contractors. Next our visit took us to the station that weighs and tests corn coming in on semis, followed by a trek down to the rail terminal and grain bins. Millions of bushels of corn from this area are sent thousands of miles to feed chickens. By the way, did you know each Americans eats about 10 chickens a year on the average? Our visit concluded with a few words about risk management and safety and our annual photo in front of a bin that holds 650,000 bushels of corn. Rock River Lumber and Grain is a diverse company that has grown and morphed through almost 100 years. You can learn more history at the link below.
