We discuss often how CEO is a safe space to be authentic, honest, and brave even when it seems difficult. The East and West CEO groups were able to get together for Monday with Margo yesterday, where she educated the class with her family’s lived experiences trying to escape Germany during the Holocaust and keeping their Jewish faith. She read aloud old letters written by both her mother and mother in law who were around the age of 9 when the chaos began. One young girl was able to get citizenship from family who lived in the US, and they were able to escape by boat over to Ellis Island. The other young girl had to go into hiding for 2 years and 8 months before the liberation of the concentration camps happened and they were deemed “safe.” It was a heavy topic, but important nonetheless, because unfortunately Antisemitism still exists even today. Margo expressed how she is hopeful that the current generation will break down those barriers of hatred and create a kinder more inclusive world for her grandchildren. So many great questions were asked and we are very thankful to Margo for being vulnerable and sharing her and her family’s journey.
