Friday's CEO Class was a perfect example of the diverse topics we learn about. Kim Gaffey, Gaffey Home Nursing and Hospice owner, packed a wealth of knowledge into her presentation starting with her passion for health and elderly and the struggles she faced as a young female entrepreneur. Her stories served as examples to support life lessons: take care of your employees, know your customer, understand the industry, stay ahead of changes morphing to offer the best, and protect your company's reputation. She also addressed the difficult job of hospice (living the best life you have with the days left) and shared how honored she feels to support someone at death. Her honest account of business experiences left students with many great questions.
Payton Harris, CEO Class of 2016, was also on hand for a 30 minute debrief on life since Milledgeville High School graduation. He shared his journey through transferring colleges and eventually getting his masters degree. His current position is Unified Champion City School Specialist working for the Special Olympics in the St. Louis area. In his role the goals for schools include, inclusive youth leaders, unified sports/activities, and whole school engagement. He fell in love with the program while refereeing basketball at the US Special Olympics in Florida. He especially enjoyed the dynamics of unified teams, with both Special Olympians and average students. Payton has been diligent in honing his refereeing skills through camps around the county with the hopes of moving up that ladder. We will be watching big games on tv and hope to see him there some day!
